AP Predictions & Business Networks: What You May Have Missed

Like normal, the analysts of Ardent Partners have taken a deep dive into accounts payable (AP) topics over the past two weeks. From the final part of our series looking into the future of AP, to the past, present, and future of business networks … read on to catch up on everything you might have missed.

AP Predictions for 2015: B2B Payments Become a Strategic Business Process

Historically, the question of when and how to pay suppliers has not been given much organizational thought. This is no longer a viable proposition, and the movement in AP away from an almost “hands-off” approach for leadership has made Ardent’s fourth and final prediction — that B2B payments will become a strategic business process — a credible possibility. Moreover, the rise of financing options such as dynamic discounting and supply chain finance make it easier and easier to squeeze financial value from a formerly tactical process. How Will Business Networks Transform Talent Engagement?

Business networks have revolutionized the way trading partners communicate, collaborate, and do business for the past 15 years. Much of the impact of business networks so far, however, has been on tactical activities such as invoice processing and improved sourcing results. While these areas are beneficial to the enterprise, so far there has been some avoidance at leveraging business networks for strategic areas such as talent management. Chris Dwyer explains the impact of business networks on the talent management function in his May 20 article. AvidXchange’s Payables Revolution

Ardent Partners Chief Research Officer Andrew Bartolini made his way out to Costa Mesa, Calif., two weeks ago for AvidXchange’s Revolution user conference. Our May 22 article rounded up nicely the day-two opening keynote of the event, which touched on the … well … revolution that AvidXchange wants to effect in accounts payable technology. Bartolini writes that “This revolution may not be televised (after all, does anyone even watch TV anymore?), but it will be worth watching.” Read the full article at https://payablesplace.ardentpartners.com/2015/05/avidxchanges-payables-revolution/ for more.

How to Build a Compelling Business Case for Supplier Networks

Supplier networks sit at the intersection of a paradigm shift in the way trading partners communicate, collaborate, and transact. Global enterprises have recognized this transformation and have begun, in many cases, to alter their business processes. That said, some enterprises still have not managed to implement supplier networks — despite their benefits. Andrew Bartolini outlines some solid steps to build a business case for a supplier network in his May 25 article, which also teases the associated report (sponsored by Hubwoo). Business Networks – Past, Present, and Future

The Ardent Partners team has written extensively about different accounts payable and procurement technologies over the years. One of the things that has not happened often, however, is an examination of the adoption of a particular technology. This May 27 article by Andrew Bartolini teases a new report type — the technology adoption report — that aims to combine just these pieces of information.
