The role of Treasury has shifted dramatically in the past decade, especially since the financial crisis of 2008/2009. Where Treasury once could content itself with protecting corporate assets, the new market paradigm requires the Treasurer and his or her team to focus instead on driving value from the firm’s working capital stores. To this end, Treasury has been forced to look outside of its traditional tools and techniques and examine the entirety of the financial supply chain for innovative ways to drive value.
It is because of this push to uncover novel methods of growing working capital from the entire financial supply chain that Treasury’s influence can and should increase in the accounts payable department.
